Note: In recent conversations with other Scout Masters, I learned the following:

bullet

Eagle-required badges signed off by a parent/councilor, is a red flag at the Eagle Board of Review, and will be questioned. Some troops insist on outside councilors. Some, if badge is offered and taken as a ‘troop badge’, allow the practice.

bullet

An average Eagle Project is 120 hrs.

bullet

Eagle scouts are expected to be very active in the troop, show Scout Spirit, and are expected to continue to serve the Troop a minimum of six months after becoming an Eagle. Most serve a year or more. The Scout Master, weighing the opinions of the Assistant Scout Masters, and in agreement with the Review Board, should all recommend the candidate.

bullet

There is an agreement that this honor not be devalued.

bullet

The Senior Patrol Leader position is via a vote, when two or more candidates are recommended by the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scout Masters.

bullet

The Assistant SPL is chosen by the Senior.

bullet

The Patrol Leaders are voted. Rank requirement is normally First Class and above.

bullet

Assistant PL is assigned by Patrol Leader.

bullet

All other rank-advancing positions are assigned by Scout Master, Senior Patrol Leader, and Assistant Patrol Leader.

bullet

Training is essential (scouts and adults).
