News!

        Home

Sept 26, 2008 As a result of Troop 652 being dually enrolled in both Greater Cleveland Council and Great Trail Council, all Troop 652 scouts have been or soon will be mailed popcorn sales materials from Great Trail Council titled "The Quest for Treasure". Please throw these materials away, for we are conducting our sale through the Greater Cleveland Council. While the order form from Great Trail looks identical to the ones distributed to those scouts that have picked up their personal popcorn sales folder, they are not. The mailed Great Trail form offers products Greater Cleveland council does not and the prices are different on some products.
Sept 26, 2008 There is only one troop meeting left (Thur.Oct. 2) before the start date of the popcorn sale "season" (Sat. Oct. 4th). If you haven't already, pick up your personal popcorn sales folder at the meeting. A seven page document containing everything you need to know about the popcorn sales program will soon be posted on the troop website. All scouts should print these documents and put them in their popcorn folder. General info. , important dates, show-n-sell sign up info., scout profit info, incentives (game tickets, gift cards) etc.. is all detailed in this collaboration of info.

Please print the following information and put in your yellow popcorn sales folder

If you weren’t present at the Thur. 9/18 popcorn troop meeting  - you will have to get your popcorn sales folder from Mason Schuster at the 9/25 or 11/2 meeting.

Included in the folders are:   2 Order forms, $ collection envelope,  Trails End website username, password, instructions   and online ordering www.orderpopcorn.com personal key code cards

Delivering Customer Orders

Same guidelines as selling apply

Take your $ collection envelope with you – Checks are to be written out to BSA - Troop 652

You might want to take some change money with for customers paying with cash that don’t have the exact amount. Initially you’ll have to use $ of your own but be certain to take your personal $ out later.

Keep all daily collection $ in a safe place at home. Do not go out collecting with more $ on hand than you would need to make change.

Make as many copies of the orderpopcorn.com cards bearing your personal key code as you have customers you’re delivering to. Tape a copy to each customer’s order so they can order additional Trails End popcorn products at a later date if they so choose.

Profits made from online sales throughout the year will be applied to your scout account.

Four copies of your personalized orderpopcorn.com cards are included in your popcorn folder as well as instructions  for printing additional copies (4 to a page)

21 total shifts.  Need 2 scouts per shift  ==>  42 opportunities

Fair distribution of shifts to all scouts interested will be the initial deciding criteria in determining

shift assignments with first to sign up first to be assigned being the secondary deciding criteria.

Of the two scouts working each shift, a parent of either of the two must be present during the shift

Note: Per a recent conversation with Mrs. Orlandi re: sales at the St. Basil Fall Fest, sales at this event were extremely disappointing last year and did not warrant the effort. We will not therefore be conducting sales at Fall Fest after all.

We were denied permission to sell at Booville.

4 Ways for scouts to sell / earn $

1. Show-n-Sell

Organized  product sales at churches, storefronts, community events, etc….

Profits made from these sales are divided up amongst the scouts that worked the sale

We will have show-n-sell sales at the following:

St. Basil after masses and at their Fall Fest, Giant Eagle, Heinens & The Go Show

at BBH High School - www.ssgoshow.com

This is a community event where local businesses assemble. There are food samples, candy,

entertainment (ex: Taekwondo demonstrations, high school bands play, etc...)

Sign up via email and at meetings.

2. Take Order - Door-to-door orders as well as orders from local friends, family and relatives

3. Online Orders

 - Ask NON local friends, family and relatives to purchase Trails End products

online at  www.orderpopcorn.com and entering your personal online order key code

 - Distribute copies of your online order cards to “take order” customers when you deliver their order.

 - Using your personal Order Key code will result in the commission being applied to your own personal

    scout account.

-Scout commission is a flat 30% for online orders which can be earned year round

-Online orders placed during the official sales time period Oct. 4 – Nov. 2 count toward “Fill it Up”

Example: 23 customer door-to-door orders and 2 online orders placed using the scout’s

personal Key Code # counts as 25 orders total and a “Fill it Up” qualifier.

4. Parents - How can parents help sell / earn $ for their scout ?

* By making purchases for themselves, their scout and family to enjoy J

* By considering purchasing products to give as holiday gifts given that the orders will be delivered in

the last week in November. The decorative tin products make for nice holiday gifts

* By taking an order form with them to work – each scout received two additional parent order forms

*By encouraging their work place / company to purchase  popcorn products to give as

(holiday) gifts to customers, staff members, managers, departments, etc…

Selling Tips, Courtesy, Demeanor, Safety and Dress

Personal Appearance

All scouts must wear their Class A uniform with their shirts tucked in when selling in public whether it be

at organized Show-n-Sell sales, Door-to-Door or otherwise. Sloppy unkempt looking salesmen don’t

    make as many sales !

Safety

Scouts should not sell alone. They must sell with an adult or another scout.

Do not sell after sunset, day light hours only.

Do not go into anyone’s home even if invited to.

Timing

Do not sell during common dinner hours, interrupting a potential buyer’s dinner will annoy them.

Do not sell on holidays (Thanksgiving)

Respecting other’s property

Do not cut across lawns, through gardens, flower beds etc…..Use sidewalks and driveways at all times.

No one wants to buy from a salesman that just trampled through their yard and/or landscaping.

Be prepared

Take two pens with you for filling out the customer orders

A clipboard may prove useful as well

Be Personable

Apathetic, monotone, less than enthusiastic, unknowledgeable “sales pitches” reap poor results

Identify yourself, your affiliation and your reason for selling

“Hello, My name is XXXXXXX, I’m with Brecksville’s Boy Scout Troop 652.

I am selling popcorn in an effort to support Boy Scouts of America and fund troop activities I will be

participating in. I have * see below

Know and identify what you are selling !

Know all 14 products for sale, you are selling more than just popcorn (Trail Mix, Assortment Tins etc…)

Tell your potential customer you have

bullet

      * 4 varieties of Microwave Popcorn

bullet

      * 4 varieties of Carmel Corn

bullet

      * 4 Assortment Mixes

bullet

      * Trail Mix

bullet

      * and a Military Donation option”

A concept to consider promoting when selling

All “take order” popcorn products will be available for scouts to pick-up for delivery   Sat. Nov. 22nd .

Therefore, encourage potential buyers to buy products (especially the tins) to give as holiday gifts.

Be courteous

Always thank the potential buyer whether they buy or not

If they did make a purchase “Thank you for your purchase and supporting scouting”

If they didn’t make a purchase a simple ”thank you for considering / your  time / anyhow”

“Have a nice day /afternoon/ evening”

Purchase or not, be polite and be courteous !

Know and inform customer of when you will be delivering their purchases

“Take Order” products will be available for pick-up from me Sat. Nov. 22, 2008

Scouts can deliver their orders Sat. Nov. 22 thru Wed. Dec. 3 at the latest.

NOTE : $ is not collected until the product is delivered.
