This ended up being a 6.8 mile
hike/backpack trip on a gorgeous day on the Buckeye Trail. Only a
few blisters.

Nov 20-21, Backpack/Hike to
Camp Butler
This will be a 5 mile hike or
backpacking trip. Scouts have the option to Backpack their gear to
the camp site to complete the Camping Merit Badge requirement. Those
opting to Hike, can have their gear hauled in the Troop
Trailer.
The hike will be a little over 5 miles
from the parking lot to the camp site in Butler/Manatoc. Taking the
Buckeye Trail From Boston Store to Pine Lane Trailhead (4 miles,
about 4 hours with some uphill trails) Then across Rt 303 to Camp
Butler and to the camp site (a little over a mile on gravel road).
We will need adults for the fast-pace and slow-paced groups.
Bring your uniform shirt to wear for
travel and dinner. Mess kit with cup and utensils, sleeping bag, and
a tent for every 2-3 scouts. Bring a Compass and knife. Bring food
and drink for the trail. Dinner and Breakfast food will be provided.

We will meet at the St. Basil parking
lot on Saturday, Nov.20th, at 9:30 am to load gear into the trailer.
We will return to St. Basils by 9:30 am on Sunday. We will need a
few parents to help drive the scouts to the Cuyahoga Valley National
Park "Boston Store" Visitor Center at Riverview Rd and
Boston Mills Road - across the street from and a little south of the
Boston Mills Ski area.
Scouts should have sturdy boots or
hiking shoes, backpack or daypack (like a school backpack), lunch
for eating on the trail, rain gear, personal first aid kit, and
water. Two quarts of water recommended (4 lbs).
Weather forecast is for mostly clear
skies, high of 44, low of 38. Full Moon.
Those backpacking can leave extra cold
weather gear or camp chairs in the trailer.
The fee for the weekend will be $15.
Payable by cash, check (Troop 652), or by scout camping accounts.

All" and won a free weekend camping with
canoeing. |

| We took 2nd and 3rd in the 10 miler
for ages 14-17. |

May 13 is Summer Camp Kickoff meeting
for parents and scouts, Next week (May 13) will be a regular
meeting but it will be the summer camp information night.
Parents should come at 7:45 to hear the talk about what's
different this year, there will be sign-up sheets for things we
need parents to help with.
Since all of you have gone through
this at least once, we'll concentrate more on the forms and
payment schedules rather than "what to bring".
Costs this year are: Early Bird Fee
(paid by 5/20 to troop or by 5/21 at Great Trail Council
Headquarters). $210 Regular Fee (paid by 6/10): $230 Late Fee
(paid by 6/20): $245
